Take the Chickies Bowling
We took the girls bowling today and had a lot of fun. I had the idea that Eden could bowl in her stander, and John noticed some kids bowling with one of these ramps when he went with work. We called ahead, and found out that the ramps were available at the alley near our house, and they have nonsmoking open bowling every day for a few hours! It worked out GREAT! Eden was the perfect height in her stander to reach the ball on the ramp, and her stander fit right up to it. It was a total win! Eden bowled an 87, and Holland a 105. They both bowled over my average:)
We try really hard to find ways that Eden can participate in everything we do. It requires a lot of planning ahead, but is usually possible with some adaptations and a lot of work. Tomorrow we are taking the girls swimming. I have to think about it... I know we can go and take turns holding her, but she tries to get down the whole time and will wear us out. It will be much more fun and a lot easier when we get her headfloat. I was thinking of waiting until spring, but if she enjoys herself tomorrow maybe we'll make the investment sooner. There's a place nearby where they will make her a custom one for her tiny self.
Speaking of tiny...Eden has been a real pill lately about eating. For the past two or three days she is giving us a really hard time, and has eaten next to nothing. Last night she threw up her lunch and the little bit of bottle she had drank, and wouldn't take another drink. She went to bed on a totally empty stomach. It is so sad and stressful. She is so skinny that she feels like she will break when you pick her up. You can feel every bone in her body. We're doing our best to remain calm about it, and just do the best we can without forcing the issue. I'm not exactly sure what is going on, cause she had been doing so well. I know that she is teething...again, and I think that has a lot to do with it. She doesn't drool at all, so I think she swallows all that extra saliva and it makes her tummy feel full and upset. She has been chewing on her fingers constantly and burping and refluxing a lot more than usual. Same thing has happened every time she gets new teeth, and we worry every time. And every time the worrying just doesn't do any good. Shouldn't I know this by now??? But still I worry.

Of course you worry, that is our job as mothers! I am crossing my fingers that Eden's eating will soon improve. In the meantime, try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know).
Kudos to you for taking the girls bowling. Yet another great example of what perfect parents you and John are for your two beautiful girls. It looks like H & E had a good time. Quite the bowlers they are, huh?
Good luck tomorrow with swimming. I hope you all have a blast!
Great pics and how fun! I love family outings.
Holland's specs are great! I think I need a pair just to look as studious as she does.
And now I can't stop singing Camper Van Beethoven... not that your girls resemble skinheads in any way at all. :) I love those ramp things for the bowling! I should use one if it'll mean I can actually bowl over 100!
It looks like bowling was a hit with the girls! I should take mine and see what they think. :)
Kelsey hasn't been eating either. I hate when that happens. When I rub her back, I can feel every little rib. It makes me worry, too.
I hope Eden starts eating more soon.
Keep the faith.

I heard about www.waterwalker.com on another sight. It is pricey but may be worth it in the long run. Your girls are beautiful and I love the blog! Adrienne
Both Holland and Eden bowl better than me!!! I'm glad that a fun time was had by all. What a great outing for the family.
I feel your eating pain. Yesterday the only thing I could get Sarah to eat was an ice cream sandwich. I know - I'm bad. But I tried about 10 different favorites of hers and she refused to eat.
Hi Billie,
I've been reading your blog for a while now, I'm an OT... Good luck with Eden's feeding, just keep on giving her whatever she'll eat.
For taking her swimming another low cost alternative to the headfloat is to use a life jacket (but not the orange kind) and put a noodle through the back of her neck, that way she can float and kick on her back. Have a great time tomorrow!
Not to point out the obvious, but I seem to remeber another little girl I used to know who was so skinny she looked like she would break. Maybe it's in her gene's!! I'm sure she will eat when she feels the need, try to stay sane about it! Luv Ya Liz
I think bowling shirts are now in order! You could get a league started with all their friends! You and John are awesome parents Billie!
Have fun tonight...enjoy all the kiddos, Lisa is chomping at the bit to get her hands on all of them as usual!
Happy New Year!!!
Love,
Jules
Hey B, Just wanted to let you know that Claire spent all Thursday night and all day Friday throwing up and it is now Tuesday, and she is still hardly eating. I think that she has lost about 5 pounds! I know that I can see every rib, I also think I can see her backbone from the front! We are going to the doc today, because now along with Kate and Myself, she is seriously congested! What a GREAT vacation!!!
It is SO okay to worry about your children, hon, but do not add to your stress by worrying about worrying! :P
Eden has a gastro DR right? What does he say about it?
The bowling trip looks like it was tonz of fun! You guys ares the greatest parents to still take the time and effort to do things like like with all that you have on your plate. Give yourself and your hubby a big hug for your fortitude! You guys truly inspire me...
oh my gosh, I never thought of teething and swallowing all that drool that most kids have....Kaitlyn never drools either, but has been chrewing on her fingers like crazy and her vomiting has increased as well as her pghlem....I wonder...thank you for that thought...
I love the bowling pictures. You and John are absolutely amazing parents...I feel touched and lucky that I am in your lives...
And that you spoiled my "girls" for christmas!!
You are doing such a great job with your girls. It takes a lot of work to do an outing like that. I admire you. I have read a few other posts of yours and just wanted to commend both of you. It's not easy caring for children like the girls, but you've done a nice job. I hope this year is good for them and for you too.
