No Right Answer
I was going to call this post "To Pull-Up or Not to Pull-Up" but I guess the answer to that question is really out of my hands. Holland told me this morning "I don't like Dora training pants, I like my diaper."
I am not going to force the issue because, well, I don't feel like it. I'm clearly not really keen on the whole potty training thing anyway. I really want it to be easy with as little power struggle as possible. I'm waiting for her to potty train ME.
That said, I promise not to say "just go in your diaper" ever again!
The dynamic is getting a little tricky already, in terms of training Holland before Eden. I really think it would be easiest if I could get Holland trained, then start working more with Eden, but I'm not sure if Eden will have it. She has been crying and saying "my turn" when Holly is using the potty.
But golly. How is this possible? Eden is going to be tricky, just because she can't sit on the potty by herself. But how can I take off two diapers, hold Eden on the potty, help Holland, wipe two butts, wash two pairs of hands, all by myself at the same time??? And what if we're out in public??? Gah. I don't like Dora training pants. I like diapers.

Just a thought, and something I used more than the "training" diapers was the Pampers Easy Ups. Its more like a diaper, with the easy up and down of the diaper. The way your girls are with "potty" rivalry, they may train each other along with you!
hi billie :)
with eden.....what yo uprobably need to do is get a back for the big toilet made for kids with CP that has straps on it...that's the best bet. I wish my camera was working so i could take pics of all of Rebekah's equipment for you...it would amek explaining so much easier. if you haev ANY qyuestions about CP, please ask me!!! I look forward to your questions and I will answer then ASAP :) Please please please ask questions!!!
Kendry who just turned three about a month ago is yet to be potty trained. Reassured you are not alone. I have the same prob with Kendry has you do with Eden.
Another thought...we have had some success with letting our daughter run around with no diaper on. You could try this...it cuts down on time to remove a diaper if they actually tell you they have to go and I think it helps remind them to try.
Also, if you get a trainer potty for Holland and then use the CP potty (that jenny suggested)for Eden you could have them both on the potty at the same time.
Oh, and to minimize water disasters in the bathroom we have gone to the hand sanitizer. It works well, but you have to keep it out of their reach b/c it is dangerous if they were to ingest it.
Just some thoughts - I'm in the potty training stage too. Can't wait 'til we're on the other side of this hurdle.
We use a rifton potty chair, its eassy to use and grows with the child.

Billie,
It's going to be a lot of work either way and if you are not too keen then maybe you can wait a bit until you are more up to it. I put it on hold at our house as I felt like I never left the bathroom and that is only with one little wonder child. Do look into a proper potty for Eden it will be much easier if you don't have to be helping her when she is on the potty, it will free up your hand to chase Holland. If you are still wanting to stay in diapers have Holland wear her training pants under so she still gets the yucky feeling if she pees but you have the back-up of diapers.
Good luck.
Don't know what the answer is for you Billie. I was really lucky that with the older boys, kindy potty trained them. I just did what I was told. Trying to toilet train Moo is another problem. He likes his diaper too ; )
So, Billie... Once you have this all worked out and down to a science, you won't mind training our girls, right?! :)
There are so many things to worry about and focus on, this is just at the bottom of my list (even though my MIL thinks babies should be trained by 18mos).
Wow, just the thought makes me tired. Best of luck!
Love the hoodies! Margaret has the one Eden is wearing!
If it helps your mind any, my daughter said the exact same thing about the diapers. Actually, she would say, "I like my BY-Per!" Very cute, but very annoying at the same time. 3-year-old poop is way nastier than 2-year-old poop!
And yes, I did say "3-year-old." She was over 3 when she finally trained, and she didn't have any of the hurdles Holland has had to overcome! So yay Holly for trying!
Oh man...my girls weren't potty-trained until they were three.
They wore their pullups for a full year.
Let me tell you...its not easy to take two to the potty at the same time, but it IS possible!
Good luck...hope it all works out.

Oh, I feel your pain! I have 3 to potty train and I have been putting it off as long as I can however I think Sophie is really sick of my laziness...she's ready!
Well Holland is not the only one. My 2 1/2 year old son does not like pull ups either. Everytime I suggest them, he says no- diaper. I think maybe the pull-ups do not absorb as much, so if they do go, it is not as comfortable, or maybe they do not fit as snug? Anyway-- I feel your pain... I cannot image however ptty training two at the same time!
Speaking from the point of view of having trained twins..follow their lead. My daughter was clearly ready and one day I just took away the diapers--1 accident later, she was potty trained. My son, her twin, was darn near 3 and 1/2 before he got it...and it took me 2 months before I decided to just let him tell me when.
My youngest, who will be 3 in under 2 months, doesn't have any interest. Tells me the potty is scary (the big and little one) and that when he grows up he plans to wear 'Big Big Diapers' so he doesn't need to use the potty.
Ahhhhh, serenity now.
That "big, big diapers" comment is cracking me up!
Ben showed interest at 2 1/2 then had and accident on the floor and thought the whole thing was a bad idea. We had been discouraged from trying until we knew if he had the ability to "hold it" so we were not pushing him even when we knew that he could. I finally got tired of diapers two months short of 4, yes 4 years old, told him we were potty training, went straight to underpants, and spent the next two months hanging out in the bathroom. Kiera was 10 months so I had to get creative because Ben wasn't stable enough to be hands off initially. I had to listen to some crying, clean up a lot of accidents and play in the bathroom for hours with both kids. We did sticker charts like crazy because he loved the letter stickers we had. Then one day the accidents didn't happen as much and he got it. Bad news is that I still take him to the potty several times a day. Low tone makes quick changes hard. Good news is that now Kiera want's to use "brother's potty". I'm counting on one to train the other. You might too:)

Sorry, let me try this again.I never comment on stranger's blogs! Yet I was recently told my 10 month old daughter likely has CP, and my internet searching brought me here. While I am terrified of the future, your proactive and professional approach to dealing with your daughter's CP is very inspiring to me. I might have to peek in every once in awhile.
BTW, your daughters are so beautiful-their happy pictures put a smile on my face today!
Hi Billie,
Julia was fairly easy to train but our big, big mistake was training her on the toddler potty. Now she refuses to use a public toilet (even though we bring seat from the toddler potty). So for now, we have to stick closer to home.

I can't want them to be big girls!
Hi Billie
Our son (now nearly seven, CP) was not potty trained until he was 4 and a half, but he did it! Once he was ready (a combination of him wanting to be a big boy, being able to communicate his need and a suitable adapted potty) he did the whole thing in 8 weeks flat (number ones, number two's and nights, with just a few albeit spectacular accidents you don't want to know about). Just wait until you and the girls are ready for it, it's a big big job. Don't fret over it too much - provided there are no physical issues, they will be toilet trained by the time they are 15! Enjoy the relative simplicity of nappies while you can.
Heike from Sydney, Australia - and by the way, our 16 month old daughter (also CP) is called the most beautiful girls name in the world: Billie off course (as you probably know, an old English name meaning "strong willed")
No advice from me because I'm dreading potty training as much as I dread going to the dentist. I like diapers, too. Baylee has used the potty twice to tee-tee (she asked both times to go), but I am not forcing it AT ALL. I'm also not even trying it with Brayden yet. He's going to have to ask for it.
I just wanted to say I absolutely love the picture of Eden helping clean the window. It's precious.
Billie
I'd like you to go onto my blog and watch the onetruemedia montage I made today. :)
